March 27, 2009 Ocracoke to Emerald Isle, NC

The ferry is scheduled to leave at 10:30 a.m. and arrive in Cedar Island at 12:45 p.m. We arrived early, since we were just minutes away. We got in line behind a tractor trailer. In addition to us, there were about 15 cars. Lots of room on the ferry, the M/V Cedar Island. We departed on time and the sky was partly cloudy and at times the sun came out. We were crossing the Pamlico Sound. It was an uneventful crossing. When we reached Cedar Island, we were remembering our first trip in these parts. It has not changed much until you reach Beaufort, NC. I would like to spend some time in Beaufort, it looks like an interesting place and I think you can get out to see the lighthouse at Cape Lookout from there.

We then drove to the Bogue Banks-Atlantic Beach is at the northern end and Emerald Isle is at the southern end, except the barrier island runs sort of east to west. Our campground this evening was quite the place. A camp resort. It was beautiful with grass sites, immaculate bath houses, many rules. It had everything except WIFI.

Rain and wind came overnight, but not too bad in the camper. The rain stopped as we were ready to leave in the morning.
