March 29 to March 31, 2009 Dataw Island

The storm last night was not as bad as predicted. This morning the sky cleared and it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day.

We drove south, still on US 17, through Georgetown and along the intercoastal waterway. We passed through the Francis Marion National Forest, where we stopped for lunch at a picnic area and campground. It was very nice and I could see camping there one day, but not in the summer.

It was after three o'clock that we arrived at Dataw Island, just outside of Beaufort, SC where our friends Ken and Portia live. We have spent a nice couple of days here visiting with them. We went to Hunting Island State Park for a visit to the lighthouse, which Mike climbed. It is a great park, wonderful beach and only 10 miles from Dataw Island.
