April 13, 2009 Monday Sugarloaf Key to Key West

I don't know what I expected from Key West. It was much bigger than I imagined. It reminded us of Cape May on steroids. We took the Conch Train for an hour and a half tour then took to the streets to see it all close up. We walked down Duval Street and over to the street with Hemingway's house and the lighthouse. We balked at the entrance price to these places. So just took photos from the outside(not like we haven't been to a few lighthouses). We walked to the end of the street where the most southernmost spot in the continental US was located. We got in line to take our pictures. Then we walked back to town, past the southernmost house, southern most hotel, southern most VFW post, etc. Stopped at the Flamingo Crossing for the most wonderful ice cream.

We passed the start of US 1, Mile post 0 and on the other side of the street, the end of US 1. We will have to try to see the other end, in Maine.

We passed up the Audubon House(another entrance fee we passed up) but wandered through the gift shop and wished we had the bucks for a print. By this time we were beat and headed back north to Sugarloaf Key for a swim and dinner.
